Herd Scrimmage Has Different Feel | The Herald-dispatch

“Offensively, we made plays,” Marshall head coach Doc Holliday said. “I thought the receivers may have made more plays today catching the ball down the field, which was good to see.” In all, the Herd offense scored eight touchdowns on the day with six of those scores coming through the air. Starting quarterback Rakeem Cato finished 5-of-11 for 122 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to Gunnar Holcombe and Cole Garvin for extended work in the backup roles. Cato’s first five passes fell incomplete before he connected with Angelo Jean-Louis on a 27-yard touchdown to get the scoring started on the day. Two of his completions went to Davonte Allen for big gains with Allen catching both in traffic. With the Herd backed up inside its own 5-yard line in situational play, Cato connected with Allen down the sideline for a 43-yard gain. Later, Cato threw a fade into the end zone and Allen went over Corey Tindal to make the catch for the 22-yard score.
