Swimmer Bitten By Great White Shark In California | Wgn-tv

Argentina will need some greater variety in attack, and maybe get more players forward, if they are to end their 24-year wait for a semi-final place. Their second round with over Switzerland was basically a win for persistence when Angel Di Maria finally broke through at the end of extra-time, putting the finishing touch to a brilliant Messi run. Alejandro Sabella’s team had spent two hours trying to break down the resolute Swiss defence with basically the same method which involved Messi, Di Maria and Ezequiel Lavezzi running at defenders, then sending a cross into the area for the head of Gonzalo Higuain . There were precious few quick-passing exchanges to open up the Swiss and the midfield pair of Javier Mascherano and Fernando Gago were an almost entirely destructive presence. This meant that the over-worked Messi had to start most moves himself, often coming into his own half to pick up the ball. With fullbacks Pablo Zabaleta and Marcos Rojo often staying put, Argentina found themselves outnumbered by Swiss defenders although they avoided getting caught out on the break. Messi’s form has been a stark contrast to his ineffective fellow forwards.

Teens headed to Israel are packing street smarts but few fears – The Washington Post

The victim was with a group of long-distance swimmers about 300 yards off Manhattan Beach, when he was bit on his side Saturday morning. Witnesses say the 7-foot shark had been thrashing around in the water for more than 30 minutes, after it was snagged by a fishing line. A paddle boarder put the man on his board and rushed him to shore. He was conscious and breathing on his own when he was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening. Authorities say the attack may have been whats known as a response bite. Its where the shark is hooked in the lip, and hes trying to shake the hook, said Eric Martin, a marine biologist. His mouth is opening and closing as he is shaking his head and when hes doing that, his teeth are coming out. We think the swimmer just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

He just graduated from high school and is headed to Israel in August to spend a year in a school near Gaza where he will prepare to join the Israeli Army. (Katherine Frey/The Washington Post) By Carol Morello July 4 Follow @CMorelloWP At 17, Isaac Cohen is on the brink of flying to Israel to continue his education and eventually join the army, and none of the mournful and scary news coming from that country in recent days has dissuaded him. In the last couple days, my parents have been telling me to be more cautious, said Cohen, describing his family and friends as devastated over the abduction and killing of three Israeli teenagers whose plight riveted and alarmed many in the Jewish community. Theyre a bit scared, he said of his parents, who live in Silver Spring. But theyre also proud. Tensions sparked by last months kidnapping of three teenagers hitchhiking home in the West Bank are escalating just as many Jewish teenagers from Washington and elsewhere in the United States are preparing to go to Israel for a gap year after high school. In interviews with parents, students, school officials and rabbis, nobody said they were reconsidering their plans amid the daily clashes between Israelis and Palestinians.
