Adelson also gave $2.5 million to the Republican Governors Association when Christie led the group last year. Tiptoeing around an oil pipeline: Christie became a passionate booster for the Keystone XL pipeline, which would transport oil extracted from the tar sands of Canada down to the Gulf of Mexico. Its a safe step for a Republican presidential candidate to take, given that the project is a top priority for congressional Republicans and the oil industry. But Christie has been conspicuously mum about the proposed 178-mile Pilgrim Pipeline that will stretch from Albany, N.Y., to a refinery in Linden. Opposition has grown among towns in Morris, Passaic and Bergen counties, communities along the pipelines proposed corridor, and some of Christies Republican allies in the Legislature have come out against it.
